Ever wanted to make cold brew coffee but didn’t know how or thought you needed fancy equipment? No need! You can begin making cold brew coffee in a basic French Press!

The coffee I use (not affiliate links – it’s just that good!):

INGREDIENTS

  • Water (my French Press holds 1050 mL)
  • Coffee (I use 150g)

HARDWARE

  • French Press
  • Coffee Grinder (if using whole beans)
  • OPTIONAL: scale

DIRECTIONS

  1. If using whole coffee beans, grind them to a coarse grind
  2. Add the coffee grounds into your French Press
  3. Add the water. I recommend distilled or filtered water – but any water will do. The amount of water you use will be 7 times the mass used in coffee. So if you have 10g of coffee, use 70 mL of water
  4. Using a spoon, make sure the grounds are wet – no need to stir, just make sure they’re all wet.
  5. Place the plunger cap onto the French Press (but don’t plunge it!)
  6. Set the French Press in a cool place on the counter for 10-12 hours for a standard brew time. If you like it darker, let it sit for up to 24 hours.
  7. After the set amount of time, pour the coffee out and into a container and place in the fridge. It will be good for a few days
  8. Enjoy!

TIP: the coffee will be rather concentrated – both in flavor and in caffeine. If it’s too strong, add enough water to suit your taste. You can even heat it up in the microwave to get hot coffee. Experiment with it! Each coffee is different and will taste completely different depending on the brew time in the French Press!

TIP: I find the best time to brew cold brew is at night before you go to bed (so that it’s ready in the morning), or early in the morning, so that you can have it ready at night for the next day.
